It sounds like there is a lot of poverty here and a lot of people are living in the worst of slums. (Maybe that is why beer is so popular?)

(1:30pm (PDT)) I made it to Hoover Dam finally. (Traffic has been stop and go for miles and even when it goes it doesn’t go over five miles per hour.)

I stopped at the souvenir place here. (For some reason I felt compelled to buy a pair of dice. (Tossing the dice has been a metaphor I have used a lot.) (Maybe it’s a sign that it’s time for me to toss them again? (Or, maybe I already have by quitting my job?))

It must be well over 100 here.

The truck is running well, other than a problem with backfiring. (The past few miles though, with the heat and all the zero to five miles per hour driving, the truck has been overheating. (Hopefully that will come down once I get back up to normal driving speeds.))

(2:30pm) Back in Vegas again.

(3:30pm) I stopped at Circus Circus. (I didn’t make it there last year, so I thought I would stop in this trip. (Before last year I had passed through Vegas twice, back in the early ‘70’s. Both times I was doing marathon cross-country driving and just stopped at Circus Circus long enough to stretch my legs and pee. (That is about all I did this trip as well. I did see the end of a trapeze act, which was neat. And, I tried the slot machines and won $20. (With my luck that is down right amazing!))))

Last year I took highway 93 out of Vegas and checked out the east side of Nevada. This year I am going to take highway 95 and check out the west and north sides of Nevada. (I hate to consider it, but I may have to leave Montana to find work. (I need to check out other places.) (One of the downsides of specializing in governmental accounting is there aren’t many employers in most towns.))

The radio says it’s over 100. (I believe it!)

I stopped and called Carrie and wished her a happy birthday. (It sounds like she had a pleasant day! (Good for her!))

I am feeling good and it’s going to be a full moon tonite, so I think I will drive until the moon comes out.

(6pm) Beatty, Nevada 63,589 8.63 gallons

It has clouded up and I ran through a little rain.

It has cooled things down some, which is nice.

I had to buy a second bag of ice for the cooler.

(8:30pm) Tonopah, Nevada 63,687 4.31 gallons

Tis still cloudy and I haven’t seen the moon yet.
