Faye and Larry are still planning to move to Vegas, but it’s contingent on one of Alex’s deals and tis hard to say when it will happen. (It sounds like they are pretty tired of Kingman.) (Faye has produced a lot of artwork in the nine years they have been there, but she is unhappy about the lack of sales. (I think this may have been her time to experiment with new techniques and produce a lot of work.) (For her the lackluster sales have caused a crisis of confidence. (She is having trouble producing anything right now and her studio isn’t open very often anymore.))-(I can relate!) (Hopefully moving to Vegas will provide her with a market. (Kingman isn’t really the place to be trying to sell art.)) (She is also going to try setting up a web site to market her work. (I think the web could open a lot of doors for a lot of artists. (I know I am going to use this period of unemployment to build a web site to hold all my writing. (Tis hard to imagine actually making any money from writing, but I need to try again. At least this time I will actually get published and my work will be available to anyone in the world who has a connection to the net.))))

Another problem with Kingman has been that it’s hard for them to find people who provide intelligent and stimulating conversation, and there isn’t much culture. (Larry says the local joke is "What do Kingmanites consider a seven course meal? A six pack and a hot dog.") (I can relate, but in my case the problem is my extreme shyness rather than my geographic location.)

Faye commented that she thought the true reason Edward got divorced was the kids. (She says he didn’t want kids and could never forgive his wife for getting pregnant.)

I had some nice chats with Larry too. (He is an interesting fellow.) (He has tried several different careers in his life. (Now he is working as a psychologist.)) (They have converted the garage into a large studio for Faye and an office where Larry meets with clients. (Tis a nice deal where they both can work out of their home.))

Larry says he was turned off by organized religions. (From what he said, I would guess that being raised by very conservative Presbyterian parents in a small town in Kansas during the early part of the century had a lot to do with that.)

He says that he used to use hypnosis extensively in therapy, in order to help people deal with their problems. (Even though he wasn’t looking for it, people under hypnosis kept regressing to past lives. (That convinced him that there is definitely something to reincarnation. (He still isn’t into organized religion, but it got him studying religion and he practices yoga and meditation.)))

One book he recommended was a "Course in miracles". (He said he taught a class on it for awhile.) (Tis a book written by a couple of psychologists dealing with spirituality.)

8-26-99

(Noon) I spent the morning helping Faye with computer problems and teaching her new skills. (I do love helping others!)

Now it’s time to grab another burger and head down the road again.

It will be nice taking Highway 93 for awhile. (Last year there was a lot of construction, so I took a different route to Vegas.)

Larry said Kingman is one of the few areas where there is an extended section of the original route 66 still in existence. (Maybe someday I will come back and check it out.)
