I am dreading the thought of moving to another town to find a job. (What a miserable chore moving is.) (I am even avoiding the thought of finding another apartment here and just moving across town.)
While watching people at the bar last nite, I noticed that most of the people dancing were ones who had come as a couple. (Almost all of the singles just sat alone and listened to the music. (I wonder if that is a reaction to Aids? (If so, it's sad, but I can understand the fear.)))
(1pm) From the press coverage, I almost get the feeling that the powers that be in the U.S. aren't particularly interested in finding a cure for Aids. (It can be viewed as a fulfillment of biblical prophecy, with God breaking one of the seals and striking down sinners; and a lot of people are probably applauding. (Even those who get it from blood transfusions are sinners in the eyes of some sects. (e.g., Jehovah's Witnesses)) (e.g., the Surgeon General came out this week and said we need to start conditioning babies for sexual monogamy, as the solution.) (e.g., according to "20/20" there are some drugs available in other countries that have had some positive results in slowing down the death process of people with it, but the FDA won't allow them in the U.S. yet. (I can understand the need for adequate testing before releasing a new drug, but those people already have a death sentence, so why wait?)) (e.g., all the resistance to ads on tv for condoms.) (e.g., the money and press seems to be focusing now on testing people for it and teaching sexual monogamy, instead of on finding a cure.) (Besides the biblical element, it's also causing more and more people to stay at home and become more alienated from others, which fits the needs of government and business.) (If it were a disease that was striking down the bible thumpers, I bet we would see a lot more progress being made toward finding a cure; instead of just telling everyone to stop sinning.)
I have mixed feelings about the reality that dating and an active sex life are still years away. (By then, they will either have found a cure for Aids; or people are going to be dropping like flies, and becoming sexually active will be out of the question.) (I suppose I should keep working on coming to terms with going out broke.)
I am still confused about the push now for mandatory testing. (From what I have read it takes two to eight months after infection before it shows up on the test; and some people who don't have it, test positive. (What is the point, if the test results aren't a valid indicator?)-(And, what are they going to do with the information? (Maybe they are planning to start putting people in concentration camps?))) (From what I have read the number of people getting tested voluntarily now, has swamped most of the labs. (It sounds like most people are aware and taking care of themselves.)) (Probably just a rationalization spun by the medical industry to generate revenue.)
(3pm) Nice walk.
